The Horse's Wish
——Thoughts after Visiting the Xinjiang Wild Horse Garden
By Sheng Ge
Confined within luxurious stables and fences,
I drink from Nongfu Spring when thirsty,
And eat rice, grains, wheat and flour when hungry.
I don't worry about the wind and rain,
Nor do I fear the intense heat or bitter cold.
Sometimes I'm in the stable, watched by people,
Or I run and perform in the arena.
I often hear their exclamations,
And I know some people envy me.
But no one knows that,
In fact, I don't want to be like this.
If I could make a choice,
I would definitely change the scene.
Move to that vast grassland,
Where clear lakes are inlaid.
Under the blue sky above,
A few snowwhite clouds float leisurely.
I could gallop freely without restraint,
And exchange greetings with herds of cattle and sheep.
If I could turn back the hands of time,
I sincerely hope to go back 50 years,
Or even further back in time.
On that boundless grassland,
I would run freely against the wind there,
And shout without fear in the rain there.
If I could make a choice,
I would still be willing to defend the border of Xinjiang.
Chase the invaders for thousands of miles,
Attack the enemies over vast distances.
With heroic bearing and spirit,
I'd show my loyalty and dedication.
Let the flower of life bloom brightly,
And ignite my whole heart's blood.
